Sundays with Nix: Discovery Park in Seattle

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Nix at Discovery ParkSo, I was heading out the door to go to Seattle today to deliver my %^$#@(# p-series sony to Sony Style after spending hours trying to figure out what was wrong with it and just fix it (rather than having to reload everything -I don’t hate Sony – but I’m falling steadily out of love with this model).

Anyway – I digress.  The border collies and Toni and Katie were off at flyball, and Nix realized I was about to abandon her, and I realized I was about to abandon her, so I grabbed her leash and brought her along.  After we dropped off the disgusting little computer with the nice man at Sony, we had two hours to kill.  So we drove out to Discovery Park and had a lovely hour-plus walk.  As you can see from the picture, Nix hated it.  It’s usually a bit too far for us to drive without we me getting green-guilt, but I was already halfway there being at University Village. It’s a lovely part-wild park, and wasn’t actually too busy until just as we were leaving.  I didn’t have any anti-inflammatories so my leg still hurts after that short a time (and we were slow) but the view was lovely.

The computer is back, naked as the day it was born, and I need to go find the wireless key and teach it to talk again.  But that’s a chore for tomorrow.

A Two-Dog Adventure

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Spring, flowers, green grass, and no way to walk these two dogs together at once.  So we went to the dog park.  Now, the two dogs have entirely different dog park habits.  Nixie races about and my biggest worry is her jumping on some poor soul and knocking them down.  Now, this is a dog whose hip bones are so far removed from her leg bones that the vets suggested that she had the positive results of TPLO surgery without the surgery.  Anyway, she was quite a maniac today.  She alsp\o had doggie accupun-

cture today, which might have been why she was so happy and active.  But anyway…that’s her MO.   And whenever a scary dog comes along she either pretends to be very fierce, or she jumps up on me and flattens her long body as close to me as she can get, wagging her tail.  If I wore skirts, she’d be under them.

Sasha, on the other hand, spends half her time looking just like this picture.

Can you say focus?

The rest of the time she catching or fetching, moving a mile a minute, or prancing about bragging.

AFrames are Hot Work by Cricket

Spring has SprungIt was sunny and hot this weekend, specially in the backyard which gets afternoon south sun!  I’m learning to run the AFrame!  At first it was too low and I just leapt over it.  Then it was too high and I just sailed from the top all the way across the hoops to the toy on the ground.  And then it got moved to really low and I had to run across it like I’m supposed to.  Mom said I did a good job!  And we played lots of tug before and in the middle and after training.  She says playing tug with me is hard work.  Doesn’t seem like any work at all to me:>)  We only got to charge the frame for about ten minutes before my tongue wouldn’t stay in my mouth and mom was drenched in sweat in the sun.  She said we had to stop ‘cuz 10 runs was plenty for one session and ‘cuz she was afraid I was going to trip on my tongue!  Look at that Tongue

sashaball  Happy Golden Oaf Never Enough

What a great day – the whole weekend actually!  Sunny and warm enough for short sleeves all weekend long!   Dogs to the park.  Dogs on walks.  Sasha and Cricket got to go to flyball practice this morning.  It’s our first time back to flyball since December when I pulled Cricket out because she was just over-the-top unfocused and crazed.  And Sasha has been out since her leg injury last fall.  They were sooooo happy to play the game again even though all they got to do was flat recalls this morning.  We’re going to take this slowly.  Nevertheless they were thrilled to be there and to be racing and barking their little heads off.  Crickey is so much more focused on me now.  She’s matured alot in the last three months and her brain is starting to connect with her body.  I’m glad we took a break – it was the right decision.  And then more training this afternoon.  A friend came over and taught me some tips on control techniques and beginning circle work.  So that was fun.  And of course, it’s never enough, as you can see from the expression on the Crickster’s face after a full day of training, racing and attention.  “What’s next, mom?”
