Wonder Dog by Toni

Sasha at Jet City Tourney in SeattlePerhaps out of blog sequence, but just got approval to use this photo so I will!  Sasha at the Jet City Tourney earlier in Seattle.  You cannot even imagine a hundred dogs barking in an airplane hanger for 10 hours!  The Sash didn’t seem to mind and the Cricket spent the entire day with a sign hanging from her kennel that Katie made “Hi! My name is Cricket.  I am 10 weeks old.  I am a Hob Nob Border Collie!”.  But while every passerby admired the pup, the Sash dug in and did her best!  She was awesome!!!  And I, of course, was very proud of her:>)  We have great fun playing together!!!!

The Pirana by Toni

Cricket, Nixie and BuddyHere you see the pirana emerging.  Fearless and willing to inject herself where she ought not go.  Brenda’s hands at the ready to seperate the dogs.  Cricket cares not that Buddy is 125# of dog and the Nix is 48#.  She just wants those ears!

Who’s on First? by Toni

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Nixie and Cricket sort things out - againThere is actually no question who is on first.  The Crickster is fearless and takes every opportunity to establish she is top dog.  Nixie and Sasha are restless with this – having achieved a nice even balance between them.  But it is clear that a third dog has added a whole new dimension.  Cricket is given limited and carefully overseen access to the Big Dogs.  But she takes every opportunity to make a statement:>)

Cricket meets the smell of horses

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

When you get back from vacation the world hits you in the face and tries to undo all the good relaxing.  Well, after a few days of that, we decided to poke it in the teeth and get in another good day.  We went up to Cle Elum to Camp Wahoo for the parent’s ride after Katie’s week of horse camp.  The three dogs all had to stay home (ably watched by a brilliant young member of the flyball team – so they forgave us).  We had a blast, and one of Katie’s friends and her family were along, too, so there was much friendly socializing.  As a writer, any form of social life is rare…

Riding in the Cascades in summer means dust in everything, horse sweat, and a general aroma of horse leavings.  Katie’s clothes could have walked around without her, and ours weren’t much better.  Toni made a pile of them on the floor by the washing machine.

Cricket got one whiff, and raced to a safe corner and cowered.  Really.  Then she got brave and came within ten feet and ran away.  What they say about dog’s noses must be true.  Oops, wrong url.  Try this article on a dog’s sense of smell.

Grass! by Sasha

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Sasha and Cricket take a break from the heatGrass in the desert is a rarity.  Mom took Cricket and I to Fort Rock Park so we could run in the grass and lounge in the shade – just us!  No Golden Oaf and no Buddy Bear.  It was really nice to feel something soft on my pads instead of the gritty sand and prickly brush that is everywhere we go.  We got to chase after balls and just zoom around.  I did most of the ball chasing and the Crickinator did most of the zooooooming.  We had alot of fun just watching all the people too.  People walking.  People biking.  People picnicing.  We were the only dogs around – weird, huh?  But pretty nice for us:>)

Snuggles by Nixie

Katie and Nixie SnugglingMy kid loves me.  i know this because she scoops me up and snuggles me when I am least expecting it.  I worried for awhile when the mini-Sasha appeared.  But everyone has been very clear that I am still the princess!  I love my family and they love me!!!!  It is awesome:)  But my kid is the most precious of all and I am so glad she has not been ensourceled by that mini-Sasha!!  Whenever I start to fret she scoops me up and tells me how wonderful I am.  Which I know – but it’s always nice to hear!!  I love my Katie.  She is AWESOME!!!!!!!

My Pup Just Won\'t Let GoI asked Jan for a tenatious pup.  One who would not give up but keep coming back for more.  This week in Sunriver has provided her many opportunities to back away – and not once has it happened:>)  She has wrapped the Nix around her paws over the last few weeks.  And Buddy is a softy at heart.  So it is no surprise that she opts to climb the mountain one dog at a time!  The Crickateer is fearless as she intervenes between what can only be described as a lover’s embrace of the two retrievers.  I believe the Nix is in heaven:>) !

The Best Vacation Ever, by Nixie

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I’ve had the best vacation ever, at least for me.  I’ve been swimming in the river (Cricket is too little and Sasha has been a little bit off rivers this trip).  My very name – Nixie – means water sprite, and I do love the water.

I’ve had kisses and hugs and greetings from my boyfriend for days now.  We slept together almost all day yesterday – lounging, sleepy from our cold river trip the day before – cuddling….and every so often we’d get up and play for a few minutes….see the picture Toni took yesterday?  Don’t me and Buddy look happy together?  Do they let two fixed dogs get married?

Mom and me got in our half-marathon training walk (with grandma) a few days ago, and even though it wasn’t Sunday, it was grand since Buddy was with us for half of it….

I’m not quite sure how it could be any better at all!  Except maybe we won’t have to go home and Buddy’s mom and dad won’t have to go home either….what’ya think?   Except I do miss my yard.

Potty Perfecto by Cricket

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Cricket decides to demonstrate potty-in-a-bucketCricket tries to perfect the art of getting off a bucketEveryone seems to think it’s a big deal that I was born potty trained.  I don’t know how it happened. But I have noticed that the peeps don’t have to go outside.  Sometimes I don’t mind, but sometimes it’s really hot or it’s raining…So I decided I would convince the moms that I could go inside just like a peep.  I seized the moment when my water bucket was flat on the ground.  See there, mom?  I can squat with the best of you!  Now, how do they extracate themselves?  Oops.  That’s not it.  I’ll try again at the next opportunity.  A good beginning though, don’t you think?

Training with the Big Dogs, by Brenda

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The household in Sunriver is five, and occaisionally six, dogs.  In addition to the crickster, Nixie, and Sasha, there is a big dog who does not know he has a big tail (Buddy the chocolate lab) and a little dog (Pedro the apple-headed chihuahua that fits in one hand).  The occaisional six is Odin the golden, who masses about 4 times as much as Nixie.  So that makes finding safe Crickster training place a little tough.  Crickster herself is afraid of nothing and happy to rumble with everybody, but until she’d bigger she gets to play with one big dog at a time.  Here she is with one of them now, safe and sound.
